The first metro line in Pakistan made its maiden passenger trip on October 25th at 4 PM (Beijing Time), leaving DERA GUJRAN Station with a whistle. This very first metro train of Lahore Orange Line is equipped with CASCO's complete CBTC signaling system, and the opening of this line marked a new era of metro service in Pakistan.
Lahore Orange Line Inauguration Ceremony
The construction of Lahore Orange Line is the first large-scale rail transit project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the context of "Belt and Road" initiative. It is built by a joint venture of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (CHINA RAILWAY) and China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO, a subsidiary of China North Industries Group Corporation Limited) as the general contractor, which represents the pioneer project to implement China's "going out" strategy of equipment manufacturing industry. The metro line has a total track length of about 27 kilometers, which runs North-East to South-West through downtown Lahore, serving 26 stations, and the whole line has adopted Chinese standards, Chinese technology and Chinese equipment. It represents China's first export of the whole urban metro industrial chain from design, manufacturing, construction to operation and maintenance. In this project, CASCO has provided the complete industry-leading CBTC signaling solution for Lahore Orange Line, which brings a safe, convenient and efficient passenger experience to millions of local citizens.
CASCO staff on site for installation and testing
A total of 27 trains were put into operation on Lahore Orange Line at the beginning, with a minimum interval of 5 minutes during the morning and evening peak hours. The daily capacity of the metro was about 250,000 passengers, and is expected to rise to 500,000 passengers per day in the future, which will greatly improve the traffic situation in Lahore and bring new momentum into local economic growth and social development.
CASCO officially contracted the signal control system of the project in 2017, and completed the project in three years after overcoming many difficulties and challenges. Particularly during the critical stage of vehicle commissioning in early 2020, the project was interrupted by COVID-19 outbreak as reinforcement from China was stopped, and the field was short of hands and time-pressed. However, the CASCO team didn't put the project on hold, but carefully coordinated Chinese and oversea teams to work together efficiently, and finally completed the project on schedule. This effort showcased CASCO's corporate value and the concept of "all-round protection to make you feel safe throughout the whole journey".

Up to date, CASCO has provided numerous advanced, safe and reliable signaling systems for rail transit projects in Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Laos, Australia, Djibouti, Pakistan and other overseas countries and regions, and has become a leading Chinese provider of signaling system with global presence.
Looking ahead, CASCO will continue to further implement President Xi Jinping's important vision of pursuing higher-level opening-up and advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and regional countries, further increase its global presence, and deliver more customized signaling solutions and life-cycle management services to other countries and regions, so as to bring safer, more comfortable and more convenient travel experience to the local citizens.
