At the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, CASCO ushered in a small wave of subway line deliveries. As the northern extension of Beijing Fangshan Line officially opened on December 31, CASCO capped off 2020 with an excellent December in which eight lines went into operation consecutively. CASCO’s urban rail business lived up to expectations and delivered a satisfactory performance in a difficult 2020.
Continues to lead in the industry with many "firsts" awarded
In 2020, several performance indicators placed CASCO on top of the industry, including the number of new winning lines in China, as well as the number and length of lines and new lines commissioned.
New winning lines:
CASCO won the bid for 7 new lines, covering 6 cities, with an annual win rate of 36.84%. More significantly, Zhengzhou Metro Line 10 and 17, and Shenzhen Metro Line 20 are fully automatic operation lines.
Number and length of lines commissioned:
CASCO delivered 15 lines with a total length of 311.6 kilometers.
Number and length of new lines commissioned:
CASCO delivered 9 new lines with a total length of 273.1 kilometers.
Number and length of extensions commissioned:
CASCO delivered 6 extension lines with a total length of 38.5 kilometers.
By the end of December 2020, CASCO had a total of 78 CBTC lines covering 26 cities across China, of which 61 lines were successfully delivered. CASCO was even the first to exceed the total length of 2,000 kilometers of CBTC lines commissioned and continued to lead the market.
Due to the pandemic, many projects encountered various difficulties and challenges in 2020. It was not easy for CASCO employees to achieve such outstanding results. Ningbo Rail Transit Line 2 Phase II was successfully commissioned on May 20, achieving CASCO’s first victory in timely delivery in the post pandemic period. Subsequently, Shenzhen Metro Line 6, Hohhot Metro Line 2 Phase I, Shenzhen Metro Line 8, Shenzhen Metro Line 2 Phase III and Kunming Metro Line 6 Phase II all went into operation in the second half of 2020. This fully reflects the strong activity of CASCO employees after resuming work and production. These achievements have been made possible by the unyielding faith and indomitable spirit of CASCO employees in the face of difficulty, as well as their extensive project experience and wisdom.
Final sprint in December with eight lines commissioned consecutively
CASCO delivered eight lines consecutively in December 2020, i.e. Chengdu Metro Line 9 Phase I, Chengdu Metro Line 17 Phase I, Chengdu Metro Line 18 from Sancha Station (not included) to Tianfu International Airport North Station, Shanghai Metro Line 10 Phase II, Shanghai Metro Line 18 Phase I (South Section), the Northern Extension of Beijing Fangshan Line, the North Section of Qingdao Metro Line 1, and Zhengzhou Metro Line 4.
Three fully automatic operation lines commissioned consecutively with GoA4 at one time
As the earliest supplier engaged in the construction of fully automatic operation system in China, CASCO delivered three fully automatic opeartion lines with the highest grade of automation (GoA4) in December based on its mature and stable products and excellent project implementation capabilities. They were Chengdu Metro Line 9 Phase I, Shanghai Metro Line 18 Phase I South Section and Shanghai Metro Line 10 Phase II. Apart from these three lines, no other GoA4 lines were commissioned in China in 2020.
As the industry’s first project consistency coordinator of fully automatic operation line, CASCO fully participated in and devoted itself to the construction of Chengdu Metro Line 9, the first fully automatic operation line in Midwestern China. Shanghai Metro Line 10 has become the GoA4 line with the longest operating length in China after its first and second phases were completed. By the end of December, CASCO had three of the four GoA4 metro lines commissioned in Mainland China and continued to lead the fully automatic operation market.
Focus on independent R&D and lead the future of intelligent rail transit
“TRANAVI Qiji”, the Train Autonomous Circumambulation System (TACS) developed by CASCO, was launched on November 20, 2020, becoming the first commercial TACS in the industry. This groundbreaking innovative product is expected to drive China’s rail transit to excel in train control, saying goodbye to years of hard work to catch up with others. It has profound significance for the speed and efficiency improvement of smart rail transit.
Wang Xiaoyong, Technical Director of CASCO, explains the name “Qiji”
Thanks to hardworking and persistent CASCO employees, CASCO hit a record high in its urban rail market performance in 2020. However, these achievements are just a new beginning for CASCO in 2021. With the official kick-off of the 14th Five-Year Plan in 2021, China’s rail transit construction is ready for new developments, empowered by the “new infrastructure” and new technologies. CASCO, as a leader in the rail signaling industry, will further increase its technological innovation, deepen its independent research and development, and devote itself to developing more intelligent technical solutions to write a new chapter for the construction of smart rail transit in China.
