CASCO's “AI+Rail Transit” Smart Metro Scenarios Released for the First Time

On January 29th, the "AI+Rail Transit" Smart Scenario Conference, jointly organized by Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Driverless Train Control of Urban Guided Transport (hereinafter referred to as "the Center") and Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Industry Association, and co-hosted by CASCO and Shentong Metro Technology Center, was held in CASCO Urban Rail Transit Center in Shanghai Shibei Hi-Tech Park. More than 20 famous enterprises in the field of artificial intelligence attended the conference on site, and a number of overseas enterprises had remote access to discuss the application and development vision of artificial intelligence in rail transit. The Center released the first batch of "AI+Rail Transit" smart scenarios, 10 in total, and introduced CASCO's the latest practical achievements of smart rail transit solution - "Fully Automatic Operation 2.0 System”.

The Center is a scientific research entity jointly established by CASCO with Shanghai Shentong Metro Co., Ltd, Tongji University, East China Normal University and Shanghai University to conduct research on key cutting-edge technologies and applications of smart metro represented by "Fully Automatic Operation". As one of the 36 major AI industrial projects in Shanghai signed at the World AI Conference, the Center has been committed to doing research in the field of "AI+Rail Transit" and focuses on the innovative integration of the rail transit industry with new technologies, such as big data, artificial intelligence and 5G.


The "AI+Rail Transit" smart scenario is the first official release of the Center since its establishment.  On behalf of the Center, Wang Xiaoyong, Technical Director of CASCO and expert of the Technical Committee of the Center, introduced to the participating enterprises a total of 10 smart rail transit scenarios of 3 major categories, including "Smart Operation Control", " Smart Station" and the newly added " Smart Verification and Training", showing the future blueprint of AI application in the field of smart rail transit.

The above smart scenarios are based on CASCO's latest R&D achievements and engineering practices of newly-launched smart rail solution - the Fully Automatic Operation 2.0 system, and also integrated and upgraded with AI technology. Taking smart station as an example, in the "smart platform" scenario, it can monitor passenger flow in carriages and on platforms through big data for analysis and early warning of the crowdedness of passengers, and plan and guide passenger flow to control the load factor of trains and the passenger flow density on platforms; identify scenarios such as people and objects caught between platform doors and train doors, and abnormal passenger behavior, and carry out collaborative control; intelligently plan passenger evacuation routes in the event of emergency. "Smart Security" can accurately identify potential public health and security hazards through AI intelligent screening, dangerous goods/contraband identification, and portrait comparison.


After that, the guests visited the laboratory of the Center, observed the laboratory demonstration of each scenario of Fully Automatic Operation 2.0 System, and discussed the application requirements of the scenarios and reached an innovative cooperation intention for the 10 scenarios in the 3 major directions of "Smart Operation Control", " Smart Station" and " Smart Verification and Training", and finally made clear the action plan for early and pilot implementation in the field of smart rail transit.

The success of this event not only promoted the creation of "AI+Rail Transit" industry cooperation alliance and joint innovation platform, but also accelerated the technical integration and industrial docking of AI and the rail transit industry. It is believed that the subsequent transformation and application of the achievements carried out by the AI Industry Association and the Center will firmly establish Shanghai's technological leadership and industrial development advantages in the field of "AI+Rail Transit".
