On May 19, the 2019 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards unveiled a total of 308 awards, including 3 special awards. CASCO made a major breakthrough by winning the Special Award of Shanghai "Science and Technology Progress Award” with the project of "Safe and Reliable Guarantee Technology and Application for Core Control Software of Major Industrial Equipment".
Shanghai Science and Technology Award, one of the most valuable awards in Shanghai, was established by Shanghai Municipal People's Government to commend the scientific and technological workers and major achievements that have made outstanding contributions to Shanghai's scientific and technological innovation and economic and social development. Among its various awards, the Special Award is the highest affirmation of particularly significant scientific discoveries, technological inventions, or scientific and technological innovations that play a particularly significant leading and supporting role in economic development, social progress, and ecological civilization. Since the restoration of the Special Award in 2012, only 10 achievements have won this award.
In recent years, how to ensure the safety and reliability of high-end equipment control software has become an internationally recognized major challenge. Especially in China's rail transit, aerospace, power control and other safety-related areas, it has always been the top priority of China's scientific research to realize independent and controllable core control software technology and tool products, and avoid China's high-tech industry from being "stuck" by the outside world.
In order to resolve this technological problem, CASCO actively responded to China's "independent and controllable" strategic deployment and started a new long march of scientific research. With years of strong support from the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, CASCO has been closely working with the team of Academician He Jifeng, Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, The 32nd Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation and other institutions, adopted the collaborative innovation mode of production, education and research, and focused on in-depth research on safe and reliable software technology for the core control system of major industrial equipment in China. For years, the relevant Shanghai Municipal Commissions have continuously increased their investment in project research and development, and actively carried out scientific research deployment. As a high-tech leader in the rail transit signaling industry, CASCO is determined to focus on the independent research and development of rail transit control systems and related technologies.
Zhou Tingliang, Deputy Dean of CASCO Research and Design Institute, is the person in charge of this project. He led a group of post-80s technical experts to participate in the entire research of the award-winning scientific research project.
According to Zhou Tingliang, CASCO started to cooperate with the team of Academician He Jifeng in the field of safe and reliable software since 2012. Relying on academician expert workstation, Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Driverless Train Control of Urban Guided Transport and other high-end innovation platforms as well as a major research project on the construction of key technologies for the trusted urban rail control system funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, CASCO conducted a key technology research on formalization method modeling, verification and testing for the core control software, while completing a completely independent research and development of the TRANAVI train operation control system after years' efforts. At present, CASCO has successfully applied the research results of formalized safety guarantee technology to the 100% self-developed computer interlocking system and train operation control system, which truly makes the system being "independent and controllable, safe and reliable". Related system products have not only been widely used in various railway bureaus, local railways, and urban rail transits in China, but also have been successfully promoted to Hong Kong SAR of China, Laos, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia and other overseas areas, in response to "the Belt and Road Initiative”, showing broad application prospects.
It is worth mentioning that TRANAVI, as the representative 100% self-developed train operation control system of CASCO, has been successfully deployed on Shanghai Rail Transit Line 17 and the first urban light rail in East Africa - Addis Ababa Light Rail in Ethiopia under the support of the "Safe and Reliable Guarantee Technology", making TRANAVI the first domestic self-developed train operation control system solution that went abroad.
Winning the Special Award of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Awards is not only a great affirmation of CASCO's scientific research strength and independent innovation, but also an encouragement for CASCO to continue to work hard and break the ice in the key core technologies and stranglehold fields. In the future, CASCO will rely on its continuously improved core technical advantages and competitiveness to further accelerate the transformation of scientific research and innovation achievements, actively promote smart travel with advanced, safe and reliable system solutions, and assist Shanghai in maintaining its technological leadership in urban rail transit industry at home and abroad and building a technological innovation center with global influence at the earliest possible date.
