The grand opening of the 17th Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum was held on October 20. As a key event at the opening ceremony, the winners list of the Second WIPO-SMPG Shanghai IP Innovation Awards was announced. CASCO, the winner of the WIPO-SMPG Shanghai IP Innovation Award (Creation), was honored to be invited to the ceremony and received the award.

The WIPO-SMPG Shanghai IP Innovation Award (the “Award”) was established in 2019, and highlights an important international undertaking to implement the goals in the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Shanghai Municipal Government and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The Award aims to recognize and reward innovative entities who have made outstanding achievements in the creation, protection and application of intellectual property rights in Shanghai, so as to foster a favorable environment for business and innovation and provide strong support for high-quality development.

The Award in this year started in June 2020. After five rounds of rigorous screening for nearly four months, including recommendation at district level, material review, nominations by experts, centralized review and live question-and-answer sessions, the results were carefully reviewed by the Screening Committee of the Award. CASCO finally stood out among many candidates, with numerous major breakthroughs made in indigenous innovation of key and core technologies of high-end intelligent equipment in rail transit over years, and achievements in the transformation and protection of high-quality and high-value intellectual properties. CASCO is one of the three winners in the Creation category, and also the only one honored with this Award in the rail transit field.

Over three decades since its establishment, CASCO has been investing in R&D with no less than 10% annual sales revenue every year, and has engaged in continuous innovation in the field of rail transit control system, and has been successful in establishing the intellectual property system. As of September 2020, CASCO has been granted 338 patents and 455 software copyrights, and has been appraised as "Shanghai Patent Pilot Enterprise", "Shanghai Intellectual Property Advantage Enterprise", "National Intellectual Property Advantage Enterprise", and "National Intellectual Property Model Enterprise". Several patents have also won China Patent Award and Shanghai Invention-Creation Patent Award.

In the future, CASCO will continue to adhere to the strategy of "promoting enterprise development with indigenous innovation and protecting technology advantages with intellectual property rights", increase investment in intellectual property rights, prioritize transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, actively promote the healthy and sustainable development of enterprise, and endeavor to help Shanghai realize the ambitious goals of "Focusing on the construction of a Center City of Intellectual Property Rights in the Asia Pacific region, and striving to become a hot land for the realization of global knowledge value".
