Shanghai Metro Line 10 Wins Nobel Prize in Engineering for Unmanned Operation by CASCO’s U888 Signaling System

22 Oct 2015

According to Xinmin Evening News, Shanghai Metro Line 10 (Phase I) recently won 2015 FIDIC Outstanding Project. It is honored as the Nobel Prize in international engineering and one of the main winning reasons is that it applies fully automatic unmanned signaling system for the first time in China’s rail transit, which is undertaken by CASCO.

Shanghai Line 10 (Phase I) is 36.2km long and has 31 underground stations. The whole operation process can be controlled and completed by CASCO’s Urbalis 888 unmanned signaling system, including train auto awakening, self-inspection, passenger-carrying operation, returning to depot, cleaning and sleep. It is the driving mode of highest automation level in the world at present (automatic driving level 4, UTO).

Guided and protected by mature and reliable signaling system, unmanned train operation boasts high reliability, adaptability and robustness, making the operation more safe and efficient by reducing the safety risk caused by human and improving the operation efficiency greatly.

In 2014, Shanghai Line 10 convoyed by Urbalis 888 automatic unmanned signaling system has the punctuality rate of as high as 99.97% and the lowest rate of failure and delay amongst all the metro lines in Shanghai.
