The first operating metro line with TACS in the world

Shenzhen Metro Line 20

Shenzhen Metro Line 20 was equipped with CASCO’s TRANAVI Qiji® TACS system, which is the first operating metro line with TACS in the world, as well as the first driverless metro line in Shenzhen with the highest grade of automation (GoA4), ushering in the "driverless" era for Shenzhen Metro.

Project Overview

Shenzhen Metro Line 20, which runs from north to south, is the backbone line of rail transit supporting the western development axis in Shenzhen. It will give into full play the radiating and driving role of Futian Center and Nanshan Center on North Bao'an Center and part of areas next to Shenzheng in Dongguan while relieving the traffic pressure of the western corridor.

The Phase I project of the line is 8.43km long with 5 stations. In the future, Line 20 will extend southeast to realize the connection and transfer to several rail transit networks, with the interfaces to Dongguan reserved in the north.

TRANAVI Qiji® Train Autonomous Control System (TACS)

As a "demonstration line of advanced technology" for Shenzhen Metro, Shenzhen Metro Line 20 unprecedentedly adopted CASCO's self-developed TRANAVI Qiji® TACS as the signaling system, and was put into fully automatic operation with the highest grade of automation (GoA4) at one go, featuring open cab and a series of fully automated functions including automatic wakeup in the depot, automatic departure, accurate parking, automatic detection, return to depot and automatic dormancy.

In contrast to the CBTC signaling system commonly used in domestic metro lines, TRANAVI Qiji® TACS realized autonomous resource management and active interval protection of trains by "vehicle-ground interlocking" and "vehicle-vehicle communication", featuring higher safety, higher efficiency, higher flexibility, lower expense and easier deployment. For example:

  • It can respond to various scenarios flexibly with shuttle between any stations and turn-back at any point.
  • It can respond to changes of internal and external conditions faster with shorter safety response time.
  • Transportation capacity can be dispatched more efficiently according to the volume of passengers.
  • It cut the number of trackside equipment, reduced the size of equipment room and lowered the operation and maintenance cost.

The successful application of TRANAVI Qiji® TACS ushered in a new phase in the development of high-performance signaling systems for urban rail transit.

Consistency Coordinator

CASCO also assumed the responsibility of consistency coordinator in the project, as it coordinated and managed the signaling and other core disciplines to make the electromechanical systems, such as signaling, vehicle, integrated monitoring and communication, operate in a highly integrated and coordinated manner to ensure the smooth progress and perfect completion of the project with its expertise and experience.
