On December 28th, South Island Line (SIL) in Hong Kong for which CASCO supplied automatic train supervision (ATS) system entered revenue service. SIL is the first driverless metro line run by Fully Automatic Operation (FAO) in Hong Kong, which indicates the most advanced signaling technology in Hong Kong and Hong Kong metro has thus covered 18 districts. CASCO, as the subcontractor of Alstom, provided driverless ATS system for SIL. It is the first time that CASCO’s driverless technology product was exported to mature market and also the first time that China’s self-developed metro signaling system was applied in developed areas.
SIL is a middle-sized metro line to improve traffic and economy in the south of Hong Kong. Its ATS system supplied by CASCO reaches SIL2 safety level, which will effectively enhance the stability and reliability of train control system and offer smoother, more comfortable, safe and high quality service to passengers. MTR could also promote the automation level and efficiency of train operation via this system.
CASCO’s ATS system in SIL control center
This ATS system uses configurable tool for the first time and has a different interface style from traditional system. The graphics are more rich and vivid and the functions are most complete as it has driverless functions including train washing, automatic awakening, automatic sleep and evacuation control. The system has passed SIL2 safety certification by an international third party and in the future, it is expected to be applied in mainland China. The experience CASCO has gained in this project would help to continue to explore the developed market and better serve domestic market by experience regurgitation.
CASCO has been devoted to implementing “Go Global” strategy for long, and endeavors to improve innovation capability and product function to realize overseas export. This export of technology product to mature market marks that CASCO’s innovation and technology strength has been further recognized by the industry.
