At 6:00 this morning, Shanghai Line 17, equipped with CASCO’s TRANAVI signaling solution, was officially put into service after construction for 3 years and 4 months, making it the first metro line in Shanghai with fully independent signaling solution.

Shanghai Line 17, running between the Oriental Land in the west and Hongqiao Railway Station in the east with a full length of about 35.3km, 13 stations, designed speed of 100km/h and minimum running interval of 2 minutes, will serve as the “western corridor” in the city and become the traffic artery connecting Qingpu and downtown and providing travel convenience for residents in western district. 

Line 17 is the first metro line in Shanghai that completely adopted self-developed CBTC signaling system by local enterprise with 100% proprietary intellectual property rights and self-owned brand. The TRANAVI signaling system it utilized was independently developed and completed by CASCO, while the development of core subsystems has applied the technical accumulation and extensive global engineering experience of Alstom over nearly 100 years. It is as good as, if not better than, imported or localized signal systems in terms of reliability, safety, availability, maintainability, expandability, running interval, train stop precision, etc. At the same time, it can provide more flexible customized solutions for enterprises and reserve adequate expandability and upgradability. 

With the support of TRANAVI, Shanghai Line 17 can enable DTO driving with automation level of GoA3, including automatic operation, automatic door opening/closing, automatic switchback and automatic entry/exit. After opening, Line 17 will serve as “intelligent representative” of Shanghai Metro together with Line 10, the pioneer in realizing GoA4 full-automatic driving, which is also equipped with CASCO CBTC signaling system. 

As the first Sino-foreign joint venture in China railway, CASCO has been undertaking the significant task of facilitating the innovative development of China’s signaling industry since its establishment. Besides, it has built self-owned R&D centers as well as R&D and intellectual property system, and was certified to national-level intellectual property system as a pioneer in the industry in 2017.
