At 7:18, August 30, 2018, with loud whistles, the first train of Changchun Metro Line 2, equipped with CASCO’s Urbalis 888 signaling solution, departed the depot, marking the trial operation of Line 2 and Changchun stepping into the era of networked metro operation.
Changchun Metro Line 2 Phase I is 20.5km with 18 stations as an east-west backbone in Changchun, linking six main urban areas (Jingkai, Erdao, Nanguan, Chaoyang, Lvyuan and Qikai) and many key functional zones, including East Economic-Technological Development Area, Yatai Commercial and Trade Zone, Hongqi Street Commercial and Trade Zone and West New Urban Area.
CASCO provided complete Urbalis 888 CBTC signaling system for Line 2 and was responsible for the project management, design, supply, installation and commissioning. The Line 1 opened earlier is also equipped with the same proven system solution. Unlike Line 1, Line 2 is the first metro project in Northeast China using LTE wireless communication technology in its signaling system, which will effectively enhance the uniqueness and anti-interference of the communication network to enable faster, more stable and more reliable signal transmission. This is also another successful LTE-based CBTC signaling system following Wuhan Lines 6, 8 and 21, a testimony to CASCO's technical strength.
Facing various difficulties including tight schedule during project execution, the project team members closely cooperated and managed to finish all tasks with flying colors and earned unanimous recognition and praise for humanized system, specialized and efficient project execution and zero change to milestones. In expert review phase, an expert from Shanghai Shentong Metro made this comment: "this is just what a mature signaling system integrator should deliver."
After opening, Changchun metro Line 2 and Line 1 form a "Cross" linking east-west and north-south of the city and constitute a 3D traffic network of light rail and metro with Lines 3 and 4. This will give further play to the primary role and advantages of rail transit, effectively improve traffic operation condition in the city, provide better quality travel for citizens and have far-reaching significance to promoting urban economic and social development and central city building in Northeast Asia.
